Brackenwood Hills GC for CustomPlay Golf released
Aug 30 2010 04:03 PM | Blade in CustomPlay Golf News
My courses, (so far at least), are fictional, but I always try to make them feel and play realistically. To this end I used a real course for inspiration.
Brackenwood Hills GC, (Par 72), is a fictional course based on the layout/routing of a Municipal golf course near my home called simply Brackenwood. I laid the basic plot out using an aerial image but knew from the start that the course length would play too easy in this game, so my goal was to toughen it up a bit mainly by lengthening the holes a bit and some minor re-routing to accomodate what I wanted to do with the course. The other thing I wanted on this course was some elevation as not too many 'elevated' courses have been done for this game. After generally optimising the landplot how I wanted it I selected the 3 main areas that would suit my needs and put in the hills that give this course it's name. The one other thing I tried to do with this layout was to put the course onto the plot with as little 'tweaking' as possible so there are no multi level, or tricked up greens
The real Brackenwood is a beautiful course but as with many Municipals it's bunkers are unremarkable and few so I have used the same basic technique on all the bunkers on the course so they all have a similar look and feel regardless of the shape I have used and have also not used that many bunkers per hole. I have used minimal planting of trees so that where possible you can see several tees, fairways and holes as you look across the course especially from some elevated viewpoints.
The custom duck sounds I found on the internet. The custom flag I somehow managed to make myself!
Thanks go to Steve Richardson for his ducks, John Drolet for his cars, BJ for the boats, Dean and Rich for taking the time to fix the bug that caused this course to have no shadows on it, Dave Farmer for the Course Overlay and to Jim Dickson for a little inspiration. (It means a lot to me when a 'noted' designer, someone I look up to, takes the time to tell me he likes the look of my course and the way it plays). Also thanks to anyone who has commented on my course based on the screenshots and videos I have posted on the site.
I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I had fun designing it.
Dave.

'New' CustomPlay Golf Bunker Tutorial uploaded
Aug 30 2010 03:00 AM | Blade in CustomPlay Golf News
I've had this bunker tutorial for a long time and there is no authors name on it. However, as I have just read it again I would have to say that the author is Joe Habiger. That and the fact that he just posted on the forums that he wrote one and it was not uploaded here to the site. ( Sorry Joe, I missed it somehow! ).Looking at the pictures in the tutorial, like most of the other tutorials here, it was originally written for CPG2 but everything in it is valid for CPG 2010.

Brian Silvernail has released the Jubilee Course at St Andrews.Built in 1897, the Jubilee Course at St. Andrews first started out as a 12 hole course where ladies and beginners could play. In 1905, it was expanded to 18 holes and in 1988 it was re-designed to championship standards by Donald Steel.

New inFamous 2 Details
Aug 20 2010 08:00 AM | Mike (Tazz) in Gaming News
If The Who were singing about this update, they would belt out "Meet the new Cole; same as the old Cole" which is exactly what fans were clamoring for with inFamous 2. Are you happy? Cole is back to normal, or as normal as he can be. He's not entirely the old Cole, because he's wearing a completely new set of clothes, but the fan furor that broke out over his updated look resulted in a major change to the game. Nice work, fanbase!Gamescom yielded a few more surprises in store for Cole and the game, which com...
